Sarah Barry

Senior Ecologist

BSc (Hons) MSc

Sarah joined Smeeden Foreman in 2023 as a Senior ecologist with a specialism in bats. She holds a Natural England Class 2 species licence for bats and is in the process of applying for a great crested newt licence. 

 

With a background with a large Engineering company, Sarah has experience of managing the ecological workstream of Nationally significant infrastructure projects (NSIP), primarily the onshore elements of offshore windfarms.

 

Sarahs role involves co-ordinating and undertaking extended Phase 1 habitat and UK Habitats surveys, protected species surveys (including bats, water vole, otter, reptiles, great crested newt and badger) compiling mitigation plans, undertaking BNG metric calculations and BREEAM assessments and EPSM licence applications.

 

Her role as Ecological Clerk of Works has involved multiple roles including works on highways, railways (PTS trained) and various development sites.

 

She has recently applied for Associate membership with CIEEM.

 

Outside of work Sarah is a voluntary bat carer and trains any potential bat carers in her area. She is also known to rescue any animals in need of help and has previously been an active Marine Mammal Medic and hedgehog carer. She has previously undertaken surveys for the Bat Conservation Trust, RSPB, the Wildlife Trust and Butterfly Conservation.
