The Smeeden Foreman ecology team can undertake specialist species surveys and provide mitigation advice on a range of European and UK protected species including water vole, badger, otter, reptiles, white-clawed crayfish and birds. Each species has an optimal survey period, although an initial walkover survey (Preliminary Ecological Appraisal) undertaken at an early stage of a proposed development project is recommended. This would assess the potential for protected species to be present on site and inform of any timing constraints to be factored into the project programme.
