Newton is a community hospital established as an NHS flagship with a large rehabilitation department of occupational and physiotherapists who work to assist patients in returning to everyday life. Smeeden Foreman were commissioned by the hospital to develop a garden which would not only look attractive but also be therapeutic and assist in the process of rehabilitation by providing opportunities for patients to engage with the outdoor environment. We worked closely with the Arts and Gardens committee which consisted of members from the local authority, Rotarians and Women’s Institute and hospital staff, to deliver the scheme.
